What Are You Allowing Yourself to Be?

Before we get into anything- take a breath with me.

In through your nose.
Out through your mouth.

Again.
In.
And out.

Feel that exhale.

There’s something about that release, after holding your breath, that reminds us how much we’re carrying without even realizing it. And maybe that’s exactly where today begins.

Lately, I’ve been sitting with a question: What are we allowing ourselves to be? Not what we’ve been told we are. Not what we’ve labeled ourselves as.Not what others assume.

But what we’re actually allowing.

I was reading from Outrageous Openness this morning, and a line stopped me:

“I am available for anything that wants to happen in this moment, including that which is beyond imagining.”

Take that in for a second- Available… for anything? Even what you can’t yet imagine? Most of us don’t live like that. Most of us live inside quiet, unspoken rules:

  • “I can’t do that because…”

  • “That’s just not who I am…”

  • “People like me don’t…”

And just like that, we’ve put ourselves in a box.

Every single one of us has a range; a spectrum of sorts. A lower version of how we show up… and a higher one. The book describes it through astrology, but honestly, this is just human nature. You can be:

  • reactive or reflective

  • closed or curious

  • defensive or expansive

You can be the version of you that reacts…or the version of you that rises.

Think about this. Are you living into what’s possible for you…or are you living into what’s familiar? Because those are not the same thing. We love labels as humans. They help us make sense of the world. But they also limit us. “I’m this kind of person,” or “I believe this,” or better yet, “I don’t do that.”

And before we know it, we’ve stopped questioning whether those labels are even true anymore. Or worse- whether they’re keeping us small.

I see this a lot, especially right now. People boxing themselves (and each other)in. Reducing entire human beings down to a category. And then defending that category like it’s their identity.

But here’s a thought: What if you’re more than any label you’ve ever used to describe yourself?

There was another piece in the reading that I loved. It talked about evolution- not in the scientific sense, but in how we show up. That we all have access to something higher. And even beyond that- a version of ourselves that rises, transforms, and lets go of what no longer fits.

So let me ask you this: Where are you limiting yourself right now?

  • Is it a belief about who you are?

  • A role you’ve outgrown?

  • A label you’ve been carrying for too long?

And…

What would it look like to allow something more? (not to have it figured out, but to just ALLOW it)

Because when you stop trying to fit into the version of you that feels familiar…You create space for the version of you that feels true.

If this stirred something in you, I’d love to hear:

Where do you feel like you’ve been putting yourself in a box?

Or simply sit with this today: “What am I available for today that I haven’t allowed yet?”
