THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS. ANOTHER BOOK CLUB WILL BE POSTED PROBABLY FOR MARCH OR APRIL.
Are you feeling the pull as you get older to tap into new channels of purpose in your life? Are you hearing the quiet whispers from your inner guidance to dive more deeply into who you are and why you’re here? Are you wondering what this “seasoned” phase of your life has to offer you and the world?
Join Dr. Bonnie Nussbaum, America’s Kick Ass Coach, for a FREE online book club via Zoom beginning the 3rd week of January, 2021.
The book we’ll be digesting, absorbing, discussing is Mary Pipher’s Women Rowing North: Navigating Life’s Currents and Flourishing as We Age. Mary Pipher is a psychologist specializing in women, trauma, and the effects of our culture on mental health, which has earned her the title of “cultural therapist” for her generation. She’s the author of four New York Times bestsellers, including Reviving Ophelia, The Shelter of Each Other, Another Country, and most recently, Women Rowing North. Having just finished reading her latest book, I’m so excited to discuss the wisdom and guidance contained within it!
"Women growing older contend with ageism, misogyny, and loss. Yet, as Mary Pipher shows, most older women are deeply happy and filled with gratitude for the gifts of life. Their struggles help them grow into the authentic, empathetic, and wise people they have always wanted to be.
In Women Rowing North, Pipher offers a timely examination of the cultural and developmental issues women face as they age. Drawing on her own experience as daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, caregiver, clinical psychologist, and cultural anthropologist, she explores ways women can cultivate resilient responses to the challenges they face. 'If we can keep our wits about us, think clearly, and manage our emotions skillfully,' Pipher writes, 'we will experience a joyous time of our lives. If we have planned carefully and packed properly, if we have good maps and guides, the journey can be transcendent.'"
My plan would be to meet via Zoom for 1 ½-2 hours for 3 sessions to go over the various sections of the book as follows:
Tuesday, January 19th, at 7 p.m. Eastern: Challenges of the Journey
Tuesday, February 2nd, at 7 p.m. Eastern: Travel Skills
Tuesday, February 16th, at 7 p.m. Eastern: The People on the Boat, The Northern Lights
Women and men of any age are welcome to participate, too, as all of us are in community with women growing older. Some of us ARE those women, some of us are the loved ones of those women...we all are in relationship with women in their 50's-80's and beyond. Everyone's perspective on this is appreciated!
